  • Print and complete a Cat Adoption Application or Dog Adoption Application
  • For cats - bring your completed Cat Adoption Application to Homeward, where an Adoption Counselor will speak with you and review your application. You can view online cat descriptions and pictures of cats currently available for adoption.
  • For dogs - bring your completed Dog Adoption Application to Homeward, where an Adoption Counselor will speak with you and review your application. You can view online dog descriptions and pictures of dogs currently available for adoption.

Dog meets cat

The following items could affect or delay your adoption:

  • Landlord approval. Too often adopted companion animals are returned to Homeward because they violated rental agreements or condominium by-laws, or required a large pet deposit. Homeward will require proof that you are allowed to have companion animals if you live in rental housing or in a condominium with animal restrictions in the by-laws. We will also verify that the particular animal(s) you are interested in does not violate any of your rental or condo requirements for size, number of animals and other factors. You can provide this proof by either bringing a copy of your lease or arranging to have your landlord available by telephone prior to your adoption.
  • Meet the family. We request that everyone who will be living with an animal be able to meet it before it goes home. Unfortunately, we have had new owners return animals because a family member or roommate, who didn't know about the adoption, did not approve of the animal. Please note that we do not typically place puppies under 6 months of age into homes with children under 5 years of age.
  • Other companion animals. If you have other dogs in your household, we ask that you bring them to our shelter for a “meet and greet” with the dog you are applying to adopt. We have an enclosed outdoor area where dogs can safely meet each other, and a staff member will assist you with the introduction. We may or may not have history regarding a dog’s behavior with cats and other animals (birds, horses, etc.), but are happy to give you pointers regarding introductions and adjustment periods.
  • Outside our adoption area. Generally we do not place animals with new owners who live more than 150 miles from our facility. While we realize that owners can move after adoption, we typically choose to place our animals within our immediate community to ensure easy access to our staff and facility should the need arise.

If an animal is found that is a good match for you and your lifestyle, and your adoption proceeds:

  • You will pay a non-refundable adoption fee and sign our adoption contract. This contract is a legal binding document!
  • If you live in King County, we will issue you a King County Pet license at no charge for a period of 3 months.
  • You will receive copies of the adoption contract, the King County license tag, and the medical record and health history of the animal. You will also be offered a free vet exam by one of our participating veterinarians.

Our adoption donations (which help us cover a portion of our shelter expenses) for cats are as follows:

  • $100 one adult cat
  • $100 one kitten
  • $175 two adult cats
  • $175 two kittens
  • $60 senior cat

The adoption cost covers only a portion of our animal care expenses and includes the spay or neuter surgery, FVRCP and Rabies vaccines (if appropriate), deworming, and flea treatment. For safety reasons, we require all cats leaving our facility to be contained in a pet carrier. We will provide a cardboard carrier as part of the adoption or you may use your own carrier.

Our adoption donations (which help us cover a portion of our shelter expenses) for dogs are as follows:

  • $150 adult dog (over 25 lbs.)
  • $225 small dog (25 lbs. or less)
  • $225 puppy (6 months and under)
  • $60 senior dog
  • TBD rare breed puppies/dogs and special cases

The adoption cost covers only a portion of our animal care expenses and includes the spay or neuter surgery, DA2PP, Bordetella and Rabies (if appropriate) vaccinations, de-worming, spay/neuter and flea treatment. For safety reasons, we require all dogs leave our facility on a leash and collar so please bring these items from home.

  • $60 special needs animal

Our goal is to make good matches between companion animals and people, placing each individual animal in a suitable, loving home.
