Making a Difference - Volunteers and Partners in Action
Foster Spotlight - The Bagby Family Bagby

Fostering kittens for Homeward Pet has been a family affair for the Bagbys. For the past three years, daughters Lauren and Olivia, under their parent's supervision, have fostered countless kittens.

Lauren, who is now 12 years old is the ‘kitten whisperer’; she will take a scared, under-socialized kitten from us and return it days later, a happy and self confident feline, all ready to be adopted. Her younger sister Olivia is the supervisor of fun, making sure that a kitten’s visit to the Bagby’s is like a trip to Disneyland!

As a family project, fostering kittens is a great opportunity to teach children the value of volunteering, nurturing, and the hardest lesson of all - learning to let go.

If you are interested in fostering or learning more about the program, visit our Foster Information page.

With kitten season quickly approaching, Homeward Pet is in need of wet and dry kitten food, KMR milk replacement powder and PetAg nursing kits (2 oz). Monetary donations always help us to defray some of the costs we incur with kitten vaccines, altering and general care.

Volunteer Spotlight - Chris Straker Chris

Chris is one of Homeward Pet’s many volunteers who help make sure that our animals are warm, fed and safe. Chris is a retired mail carrier for the Postal Service who had always enjoyed the “Pet of the Week” column in the Woodinville Weekly and knew that once retired, she would like to do volunteer work at Homeward Pet, helping the cats and dogs.

The first day on the job for Chris was an adventure! She was one of only two volunteers working the morning shift in the dog room. The kennels were full of excited dogs and many had not made it through the night without having an “accident”. Chris said she may have quit right then, but realized that these poor animals would be left with only one stressed-out volunteer to care for them - Chris was needed. She stuck it out, and since then she has seen the situation steadily improve thanks to great staffing and more good volunteers. Chris would like to give a shout-out to the volunteers on her shifts for being such a great help to her along the way and for their unwavering dedication to the dogs.

Chris has also taken up a reception shift and has enjoyed this as it gives her the opportunity to see the adoption process first hand. The best part for her, and all of us, is getting to see the dogs and cats go home.

Thank you, Chris! For giving over two years of your love and hard work to the Homeward Pet dogs.

Community Spotlight

Thank You to our Special Friends at Qwest!
For the past three years, Qwest Pioneers, a community service organization consisting of active and retired employees of Qwest Communications, have sponsored a holiday event called "Furry Giving Tree". They set up trees with gift tags that featured a picture of an animal from Homeward and an item from our wish list. Employees enthusiastically picked out a tag and granted the wish! Qwest Pioneers

Although this year was more difficult with the downturn in the economy, they were still able to collect supplies, gift cards, and cash donations in the amount of $1000.00.
