When can I visit your animals?
Homeward Pet’s adoption hours are Wednesday through Sunday, Noon – 6pm. There is no appointment necessary. Visitors and potential adopters are accompanied by a Homeward Pet Adoption Counselor to see and meet our adoptable animals on a first come, first served basis after completing our Dog or Cat Application. Applications are accepted when our lobby opens at 9am.
*Our general office hours for donations, inquiries, information, etc.: Monday – Sunday, 9am-6pm.
Do I have to fill out an application to see the animals?
If you are interested in adopting, yes, you’ll first be asked to fill out a simple, one-page application, which will let us know what type of pet you’re looking for and help us match you to an appropriate cat or dog. One of our knowledgeable, experienced Adoption Counselors will meet with you, review your application, and show you all of our available animals or introduce you to the specific animal you’d like to meet.
If you would just like to see our facility and animals, we will be happy to give you a tour. However, you will not be able to meet or handle the animals without a completed application.
*Completion of the Homeward Pet Adoption Application is the first step in our adoption process, and does not guarantee adoption.
What are your adoption rates?
Our adoption rates are:

What is included in the adoption price?
All Homeward Pet animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, given a health exam by our staff veterinarian, current on vaccines (DH2PP, Bordetella and Rabies for dogs; FVRCP and Rabies for cats), dewormed and given flea control. Cats are also tested for FeLV and FIV. All dogs are given the SAFER behavior assessment.
*Young kittens and puppies may not be old enough to have received all of their annual vaccines at the time of adoption, but will be current for their age; puppies and kittens must be at least 6 months of age to receive a Rabies vaccine.
Your dog adoption fee also includes a certificate for a free veterinary exam with the vet of your choice, free microchip registration, leash, collar and ID tag, and free training classes with Doggy Haven Resort (6 weeks for puppies, 4 weeks for adolescent and adult dogs).
Your cat adoption fee includes a certificate for a free veterinary exam with the vet of your choice, free microchip registration and a carrier.
All adoptions also include a variety of coupons and special offers from Homeward Pet partners.
Should I bring my whole family?
Yes. We ask that every one who’ll be living with the animal, including family members or roommates, be here to meet prior to adoption. If you are considering adopting a dog and already have a dog at home, we also ask that you bring in your dog to meet the dog you’d like to adopt.
*Please make sure that your dog is current on vaccinations to help prevent the potential transmission of disease.
Do I need to make an appointment?
You do not need an appointment. Our Adoption Counselors will help you on a first come, first served basis after completing our Dog or Cat Application.
How long is your adoption process?
Please allow at least 45 minutes to complete the process. We’ll give you as much time as you need to meet with an animal and make a decision. Our doors are open until 6pm on adoption days, but every night at 6:30pm our counseling staff needs to turn their attention to caring for our animals, and may be unable to complete an adoption.
Does the adopted animal go home the same day?
Yes. We will take all the time you need to make your decision and answer any questions you may have. If we find a good match and you choose to adopt, we’ll have you complete our adoption paperwork and then send you home with your new four-legged friend. We do not place animals on hold.
Do you do home checks?
Homeward Pet does not generally do home checks, although we do reserve the right to visit your home prior to adoption. We may also verify home ownership or contact your landlord for confirmation of pet policies or approval prior to adoption.
Do you place animals on hold?
We do not place animals on hold.
Can I pay in advance and pick up an animal later?
No. Because we are not a boarding facility, all adopted animals leave the premises upon completion of the adoption paperwork.
