Kitten Play Time!

Thelma and Louise now have an entire HOME to be active and playful in! Enjoy your new lives with your awesome adopters!

Biff’s Happy Tail!

Biff is a very fun dog with a great personality. He was really scared at first. He didn’t do well at night for a while. He is very comfortable now and doing amazing. He really likes our other dog Mucho too. He has gotten more and more playful and friendly as he has gotten to know us. We go on daily walks and play ball every day. He is very well trained. He doesn’t go in a crate, but never ever pottys in the house. He comes when you call him, sits and even throws the ball back when we are playing fetch.

Thank you for all of your hard work with Biff.

Teacher’s Pets

Anyone who’s had a dog knows they don’t come knowing everything…and some have never had the chance to learn anything. That’s why we started the Homeward Pet Dog Behavior Team.

Kimberlee (left) with her Kodiak, Erin (right) with her Noodle.

The Dog Behavior Team works with dogs who arrive at Homeward Pet lacking social skills and basic manners. Forest, a 2-year-old Corgi mix, was reactive to people and dogs and sensitive to handling. Our team worked on exercises to focus his energy and get him accus-tomed to being touched. Trager was an extremely shy, 3-year-old Chihuahua who just needed someone to spend time calmly reading to him, to build up his comfort and confidence. In every case, the goal of the Dog Behavior Team is to help our dogs be better behaved, less stressed and more adoptable.

Kimberlee leads this team, working with Erin, our Shelter Manager, and our professional training partners to identify dogs needing help and creating individualized plans. Seven of our most experienced volunteers and staff work with every dog, every day, teaching them new skills and helping them overcome bad habits. Positive training techniques teach our dogs that it’s rewarding and fun to behave in ways we like. When each dog gets adopted, their training plan goes home with their new family, so they can ‘keep up the good work’ in their new home, and Kimberlee is also available to advise our adopters through our Adopter Support program.

Kudos!

Cat Needs

The Homeward Pet food drive, network pick-up volunteers, are an awesome group of individuals picking up pet food from more than 25 retail partner stores who collect food for the animals year round. Since 2011 these retail partners have collected and donated over 400,000 pounds of pet food. This group of individuals have personally pick-up and transported the majority of this back to Homeward Pet. Without the effort of this awesome core group of volunteers Homeward Pet’s food collection network would not be what it is today.

Thank you Dick, Alethea, Laura, Char, Ed, Dava, Judy, Angela, Chris, Cara & Maddy, Lisa, Colin, Rob and many others throughout the years

Thank you,

David & Sadie

Doggy Haven Resort, a local full service dog resort for boarding, daycare, training and grooming, has been a Homeward Pet partner for close to 7 years. All Homeward Pet adopted dogs and their new families receive training classes with their adoption. The best bonding experience for both while also an opportunity to learn what their new canine knows about basic manners and general handling. Doggy Haven’s Dog Training classes are available to all. Check out their website for schedules and pricing.

Not only do they offer an amazing training program, they also offer daycare & boarding along with grooming services. They recently hired two new groomers to accommodate the growing demand for dog grooming in the area. Many grooming salons are booked many weeks to months in advance. With three groomers and being open seven days a week for grooming, Doggy Haven can accommodate your dog’s grooming and bathing needs quickly. “Doggy Haven Resort is surrounded by new homes and the new North Creek High School; the growth in the area is allowing us to continue to expand our services to meet the growing (dog) population.” Said David Boyd, owner.Doggy Haven Resort

Debbie

Meet the Groomers
Debbie has been grooming professionally since 1995, and joined the Doggy Haven team October 2013. Puppies are her passion; she’s so excited to build trusting relationships with dogs and parents resulting in life long clients. There has always been a dog in her home, currently a Shih Tzu and an English Cream Golden Retriever. When asked about her new home she said: “The Doggy Haven family is “way too fun”!”

Leah

Leah has been grooming for over 10 years and began at Doggy Haven Resort in June and loves the passionate, family atmosphere. “Working with dogs is therapeutic for me, and my favorite part of the day is all the love and kisses I get from them. I have two dogs, a Blue Heeler who is almost six, and a Lab who is almost ten that are my whole world.” Leah is an excellent dog handler: “You can’t have a bad day when dogs are in your life!”

Lindsay (not pictured) has been grooming for 12 years and started at Doggy Haven Resort in June alongside Leah, and has loved every minute of it! “I have two dogs, a Lab, and a Havanese, as well as a cat. I have been grooming some dogs my entire career, but the best part of grooming is building the relationships, not only with my pets, but with my pet parents. Doggy Haven Resort has such a positive environment, where everyone is passionate about what they do.”

Homeward Pet Staff – Favorite Stories

“A week and a half ago I adopted out Marie who had been here quite some time with horrible Calici virus in her mouth and throat, it was so bad she couldn’t eat because her mouth was bleeding. Dr. Jenny put a feeding tube in and that’s how we fed her for a few weeks. She eventually recovered and went to a wonderful home. Her new owner sent me an update, a photo of Marie in her new ‘bedroom’. Not bad for a kitty who was left behind in an apartment and never would have survived if we didn’t help her!”

I love the rags to riches stories!Marie (225x300)

Becca – A Homeward Hero in Facilities Dept.

“I really enjoy being part of the Facilities team,” says outstanding volunteer Becca, “Everyone is so nice and appreciative of what I do.  I know it’s a really important job at Homeward Pet, and I don’t mind doing it.  And of course, my other favorite part is seeing all the adorable animals.”

One of our most important volunteer roles – and our current biggest need – is in our Facilities Department.  The Facilities team keeps our shelter clean, safe and stocked with everything we need to take care of our animals, staff, volunteers and visitors.

Becca volunteers in Facilities every Friday, with a smile and an upbeat attitude, “I make everything that the people coming in to adopt the animals see look and smell real pretty!”  Becca’s been with us for a year and a half, cleaning, mopping, even taking the garbage out, because she wanted to do something totally different than her day job as a hair stylist.  “I think it’s important to do things in your community and volunteering helps me feel fulfilled.  Plus, I love animals.  Helping animals that are down on their luck find their forever homes is an amazing thing.”

When she’s not working or volunteering, Becca loves being outside, “Kayaking, sailing, swimming, you name it I probably like to do it.  Plus, my dog – a 6-year old Chihuahua mix with some big-time personality that I adopted from Homeward Pet – loves to hike, so I got to keep him happy.  He conquers those 13 mile hikes with me no problem!”

For all the great work she does, and how she does it, Becca is truly a Homeward Hero.
