A Happy Ending

You probably recognize Max’s face. To say he’s memorable is an understatement—between his sweet brown eyes and single-tooth underbite, he’s the model of a friendly face.

You may also remember his story, which we recounted last fall. Max came to us in the throes of heatstroke, nearing death. Only because of a dedicated team of supporters, including you, were we able to stabilize him in our oxygen chamber and then send him to a foster home while he recovered. Once Max’s health had stabilized, Ashley, our Assistant Shelter Manager, took Max home for additional rest and recuperation.

Once there, he never left.

Fostering our younger or recovering animals is something of a routine for Ashley. Litter after litter of kittens have spent their early days in her loving home. And now, with the addition of Max, those kittens have the chance to meet a dog in a low-stress environment. Thanks to Max’s gentle nature, kittens are able to become comfortable with other furry, four-legged animals.

“He adores all the foster kittens,” Ashley says. “Even when they’re using him as a trampoline.”

When Max isn’t being the mellow playmate of a bundle of rambunctious kittens, Ashley says you can find him napping in the sun, chasing tennis balls, or pleading to go on yet another car ride (riding shotgun in the front seat, of course).

Last year, Max was just one of 1851 animals who found loving homes after receiving care at Homeward Pet. Dogs and cats like him are given the chance to thrive thanks to dedicated supporters like you. From volunteering to donating to sharing adoptable animals on social media, there are countless ways to make a difference in the life of a homeless animal. Thank you for being the backbone of our mission. We can’t wait to see what happy endings 2018 will bring!

Race with the Pack at Bone-A-Fide Dog Ranch

Whether your furry friends like to relax in the sun or race with the pack, Homeward Pet’s March eNewsletter sponsor and partner, Bone-A-Fide Dog Ranch, offers a wide range of activities and services that will get your furry friends out and about.

After five years of being a professional dog walker in NYC, owner Lauren decided to open Bone-A-Fide, where dogs of all breeds and sizes can roam, play, and sleep easy after a long and active day.

Here are a few words from Bone-A-Fide’s very own founder and owner, Lauren!

Bone-A-Fide Dog Ranch is a longtime supporter and fan of Homeward Pet!  Bone-A-Fide is a home away from home for the happiest dogs in the Northwest—providing dog boarding and dog daycare to those from Seattle, Everett, Snohomish, Bellevue, and areas beyond for over 15 years. Here at the ranch, dogs can run and play freely, exploring acres of open, rustic (yet fully fenced) land. It’s fun for all kinds of dogs—from supervised outdoor trails, to heated/AC indoor play spaces, to homey bedrooms for dogs who are spending the night. There’s plenty of TLC and supervision. It’s a fun, safe place that both you and your dog will love.

Bone-A-Fide Dog Ranch is a great alternative to traditional kennels and indoor facilities for well-socialized dogs. It’s also a breath of fresh air for dog owners, who can relax knowing our team is 110% focused on keeping their pets safe, happy and healthy.

We charge a flat fee for dog boarding that covers anything your dog might need. (We won’t nickel and dime you for things like giving medicine.) They’ll enjoy up to eight hours of supervised play daily on our 5 acres!

To make dog daycare easy for you, you can drop off your dog or use our convenient van service (either door-to-door or at Marymoor Park).

Drop-off dog daycare is available seven days a week. You can bring us your pooch anytime after 7:30 am, and pick them back up anytime before 6:00 pm. Door-to-door dog daycare van service is available Monday through Friday, for pick-up and drop-off at your home. Van service is currently available in much of Seattle and Snohomish County. Be warned: after playing all day at the ranch, your dog will come back from dog daycare a little dirty, mighty pooped and very happy!

Come sniff around and drop by for a “Meet & Greet” visit during our weekly open house every Saturday (except major holiday weekends) between 12- 2:30pm.

42 animals found their homes…in just one day!

You helped us make more than 40 matches possible at our 28th Anniversary Adoption Event this past Saturday. Below, you’ll find the stories of some of the animals who found happy endings that day. However, our work with your support is never done—give today to help us continue making matches and saving lives for years to come. Learn about just a few of the lives saved below:

George and Mister (left) came to Homeward Pet together as friends and enjoyed going on walks together. They were adopted by two friends and will get to meet for lots of playdates in the future!

Maz the kitten (right) suffered from skin issues: scabs and itchy patches of hair loss kept her in our care for nearly a month while she healed. Maz’s excited adopter was first in line to adopt her when our 28th Anniversary Adoption Event began.

Buddy Boy, a senior Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix (left), was our first dog adoption of the day. His ideal home was simple: he wanted nothing more than to snuggle in a warm lap all day. Lucky for him, his new home has three laps to choose from!

Help us continue to do lifesaving work in our community.

We Celebrated Our 30,000th Adoption!

On Saturday, February 3, Homeward Pet celebrated a milestone: 30,000 animals adopted since our founding in 1990. Though we’ve changed names and locations since those early days, our mission has still remained the same: unite homeless animals with loving homes.

Christabelle Soriano, a Bothell resident, completed the landmark adoption. She saw her future four-legged family member online—a gray, eight-month-old tabby named Spike—and decided to add another cat to her family. She was already familiar with Homeward Pet after having her 12-year-old Pomeranian, Chiquito, microchipped at the facility last year.

Like many adopters, Spike’s picture is what brought her in: “I saw his face online and thought he was really cute and endearing.” After meeting him in person, his “soft fur and affectionate nature” sealed her decision to take him home that day, along with a celebratory basket of cat goodies, including treats, toys, and certificates for pet services from some of Homeward Pet’s partners.

Since the adoption, it’s been smooth sailing for the whole family. Spike and Chiquito especially seem to have hit it off. Christabelle says, “They like to hang out with each other under the bed if we’re in there. Chiquito doesn’t seem to mind sharing his usual hangout.”

All in all, Christabelle and Spike both are happy with the match, with Chistabelle concluding: “He’s a sweetie. Everyone loves him.”

Homeward Pet will be celebrating 28 years of making matches like Spike and Soriano on February 24, 2018, with $28 adoptions.
