#GiveBIG Today to Create a Bright Future for Animals!

Being an animal-lover, you know caring for pets means expecting the unexpected.

For Callie and her kittens, emergency surgery was their only chance. As you consider joining Homeward Pet for #GiveBIG2017, I encourage you to read their story below to see how your support can create new beginnings for nearly 2,000 cats and dogs this year.

When you #GiveBIG today you create bright futures for homeless animals tomorrow.

Callie was a four-year-old stray when she was dropped off at the local municipal shelter. She was petite, a little dirty and very pregnant. When Homeward Pet received the call about this expectant mother, we took her in knowing we could provide her and her soon-to-be-kittens the care they needed.

Ten days later, Callie went into labor. Hours went by, with her foster mom, shelter staff and Homeward Pet Veterinarian, Dr. Jenny, closely monitoring Callie’s progress.

But no kittens came.

A short time later, Callie stopped pushing and the situation became critical. Dr. Jenny, clinic staff and Callie’s foster family rushed her to the shelter to perform an emergency C-section.

Callie was hooked up to an IV and anesthetized. The kittens were carefully removed, still in their uterine sacs. Their umbilical cords were tied, and each newborn was handed to a staff member with the instructions to “keep rubbing” in order to resuscitate the tiny kittens.

Everyone in the clinic took turns massaging the kittens’ backs, listening for any sounds or signs of life. Those crucial minutes felt like hours. Finally, the kittens began breathing on their own and relief swept across the room. Not long after, Callie awoke to the sight of her newborn babies and today, all three are back in their foster home, safe and sound.

Thank you for granting Homeward Pet the resources and staff to provide each precious life with high-quality medical care, shelter and support.

You can continue creating second chances for homeless pets like Callie and her kittens, with a meaningful #GiveBIG gift today.

Sincerely,

Halo with Every Adoption!

Halo Pet Foods and Sam’s Cats and Dogs, Naturally, recently teamed up to donate 5000 meals to the dogs and cats at Homeward Pet!  This month, they’re making sure your new pet gets to try Halo.  All month, we’ll be giving away a free gift bag from Halo Pet Foods with every cat and dog adoption, Each gift bag includes a can of cat or dog food, a dental chew (dogs only), a coupon for a free bag of Halo dry dog or cat food, and more.  Coupons are redeemable at Sam’s Cats and Dogs, Naturally, in Monroe and Everett.

A Shelter Essential Arrives!

Even the most essential item makes a huge difference in caring for our animals.  At our recent Fur Ball Auction, we asked our attendees to support our efforts to get a new hot water tank – for bathing and grooming dogs, doing laundry and dishes, performing dental surgeries and more – and they came through in a big way.  Our new, bigger, shinier tank was installed on Tuesday by Hudy Plumbing & Heating, and we couldn’t be more thankful to our tremendous supporters for giving us a way to have enough hot water to make it through the day!
